Biography

Stephen Brown is a Professor at the University of Toronto. His research interests include optimization algorithms, field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), and the use of FPGAs in machine-learning applications. He won the Canadian Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council’s 1992 Doctoral Prize for the best doctoral thesis in Canada. He is an author of about 150 scientific publications, has won several awards for excellence in teaching, and is coauthor of three text books: Fundamentals of Digital Logic with VHDL Design, Fundamentals of Digital Logic with Verilog Design, and Field-Programmable Gate Arrays. In 2017 he was awarded a Hart Professorship for Innovation in Teaching. Professor Brown also serves as the Director of the FPGA University Program for Intel Corporation.
