Electromagnetic Modeling of Future 3D Integrated Circuits and GPUs
Principal Investigators: Piero Triverio and several AMD engineers
Description of opportunity:
Three-dimensional integration is revolutionizing microelectronics. By integrating many chiplets is a single package, one can theoretically obtain massive performance and capability gains. Currently, this is only partially achievable. The staggering complexity of 3D ICs exceeds the capabilities of the simulators and design tools available to industry, especially for electromagnetic analysis. Our research aims to address this challenge, creating the math, algorithms, and implementations that can enable the electromagnetic analysis of an entire 3D integrated circuit, in current and future technologies. This project is in collaboration with Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).
Through this project, students will have the opportunity to:
- Gain advanced skills in electromagnetism, computational modeling, supercomputing, and their applications to IC design;
- Work on forefront IC technologies and design challenges;
- Work alongside AMD engineers and intern at AMD Canada;
- Use one of Canada’s largest supercomputers;
- Translate their research findings to real-world applications.
Types of openings available:
MASc students
PhD students
Post-doctoral fellows
