ECE alumnus wins City of Toronto entrepreneurship award

Sept. 5, 2013

His motto is “Dream it to achieve it”, and for Hargun Suri one dream has just been realized.

ECE alumnus Hargun Suri.Suri, a recent Computer Engineering graduate of the class of 1T3, was named a recipient of this year’s City of Toronto International Student Excellence Awards in the entrepreneurship category. With ECE classmates Anirudh Ganti and Ian Xiao, he co-founded Interngration.com, a web-based application to bring students seeking internships into contact with start-ups in need of talented people. After a year of steady development and beta-testing over the summer, the site is anticipated to launch in the next few weeks.

“I was ecstatically happy when I found out I won,” says Suri. “It was very special to win an award for a project which I’ve been working hard on for the last year.”

The award is designed to recognize the significant contribution that international students make to Toronto’s economic and socio-cultural development. Suri is one of just six recipients; the other five won in the categories of community service, academic excellence, sports, arts and culture and professional achievement. The six winners will receive a certificate, gift and $500 cheque at an award ceremony at International Students Festival on Sept. 28, 2013 at Toronto’s Metro Hall.

Check back at Interngration.com for more news on Suri, Ganti and Xiao as they prepare for launch.
