ECE Alumni Advice: Sushma Narisetty on Community and Curiosity

For Sushma Neri Sethi (ElecE 0T5 + PEY), studying at the University of Toronto was both a privilege and a launchpad.

“U of T is very highly recognized as a top institution—not just in the country, but in the world,” she says. “It is an absolute privilege to work and study with very like-minded and bright classmates who push you to think outside the box.”

After graduating in Electrical Engineering, Sushma later returned to the Rotman School of Management, expanding her perspective at the intersection of engineering and leadership. Her journey reflects the versatility of an ECE degree—and the power of staying connected.

Her advice to students is simple: build relationships early.

“There is a community of professors, classmates, and alumni who are very eager to help.”

For Sushma, those connections directly shaped her career. She found her current role through an ECE classmate—a reminder that your peers today may become collaborators and champions tomorrow.

She also emphasizes curiosity. “As engineers, we are trained to be problem solvers. If we ask thoughtful questions and stay curious about the problems we solve, they lead to better answers and solutions.”

For Sushma, success is rooted in community and mindset. Stay connected. Stay curious. And remember—you are part of a network that extends far beyond graduation.
