Faculty Undergraduate and NSERC UTEA Summer Research Awards

General Information

A number of summer (May to August) research fellowships are available to undergraduates who have completed the 1st, 2nd or 3rd year in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Selection criteria may include the applicant’s academic background, financial need, and the duties and responsibilities of the applicant in the research project.

Application procedures will be posted in late March on this web site and announced by e-mail. A notice will also be posted on the Undergraduate Studies bulletin board across from SFB600A. The applications are handled by Jayne Leake, Undergraduate Studies Office, SFB600A, jayne.leake@utoronto.ca.

Engineering Science students must consult with their Division Office regarding their own Faculty Undergraduate Summer Research Awards.

1.  Faculty Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowships 2013:

There are a total of 2(two) fellowships with a value of approximately $3,750 each for tenure in Electrical and Computer Engineering. The fellowships are to be awarded to undergraduate students in first, second or third year for work completed on research projects under the supervision and/or graduate students during the summer. In assessing applicants, the Awards Committee will consider academic standing, financial need, and the duties and responsibilities of the applicant in the research project.

2. Edith Grace Buchan Undergraduate Research Fellowships 2013:

There is 1(one) Edith Grace Buchan Undergraduate Research Fellowship, with a value of approximately $3,240 in Electrical and Computer Engineering for the summer. The fellowship is to be awarded to an undergraduate student in first, second, or third year for work completed on a research project under the supervision of a staff member and/or graduate student during the summer. The Awards Committee will consider academic standing and the duties and responsibilities of the applicant in the research project.

A ROSI grade report printout must be submitted with the application.

Application deadline is: Friday, March 29, 2013

Please submit completed forms to: ECE Undergraduate Studies Office, Room SF600A

  • Section I of the application must be completed by the student. Please indicate the award(s) for you wish to be considered.
  • Section II of the application must be completed by the Research Supervisor outlining the research project and the applicant’s duties and responsibilities in the project. Both parts are to be returned to the Undergraduate Studies Office. Please ask the research supervisor to print his/her name on the form underneath their signature.
  • Section III will be completed at the Undergraduate Studies Office if applicant is nominated for the award.

The Awards Committee will consider academic standing, financial need, and the duties and responsibilities of the student in the research project, as they pertain to each award.

The Application deadline is Friday, March 29, 2013 - submit all parts of the application to the Undergraduate Studies Office, Sandford Fleming Basement Room 600.

Applicants will be contacted when the final scholarship decisions have been made.

3. NEW - University of Toronto Excellence (UTEA) Awards (from NSERC)

There are 4 (four) awards, value $5,625, available to Electrical and Computer Engineering students. These awards are open to first, second or third year undergraduate students. Sudents may be either Canadian citizens, Permanent residents or Visa students holding a valid student visa for the full summer work term of May 1st to August 31, 2013. Students must have been registered full time and have a cumulative minimum average of B+. For upper year students, this average can be applied to the best 2 years of study.
