Focus in Integrated Security Technologies
According to the CATA (Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance) report, the Canadian Security industry has been the fastest growing among Canadian Industries. This is a trend observed internationally. A recent census indicates that Canada counts over 700 information and communications technology (ICT) security companies. Demand for qualified IT security staff is growing fast, with the global total of professionals expected to increase to 2.1 mln by 2008 at a compound annual growth rate of 13.7% from 2003. The M.Eng. with concentration in Integrated Security Technologies and Policies aims to provide interdisciplinary training in the new era of security technologies which requires “IS Professionals’ that is engineers with a comprehensive know how and a holistic understanding of security technologies, policies and sciences.
Students who wish to focus their M.Eng. studies in Communications-Integrated Security Technologies and Policies may use the following course plan, subject to availability of courses:

- Two restricted elective courses in the area of Security, Identity and Privacy from
- ECE1517H Biometric Systems
- ECE1776H Computer Security, Cryptography and Privacy
- ECE1547H Content based and Network Security
- ECE1531H Quantum Cryptography
- ECE568H Computer Security
- Any other approved graduate course from ECE
- Three optional courses from ECE
- Three elective courses from outside ECE
- One restricted elective course in security, identify or privacy policies from
- FIS2124H Surveillance and Identity
- INF2165H Social Issues in Information and Communication Technologies or KMD2004H Knowledge Media, Culture and Society
- INF2181H Information Policy, Regulation and Law
- Any other approved graduate course from Arts & Science
- Two optional courses from Arts & Science, Law, Management or other
- One restricted elective course in security, identify or privacy policies from
- Three-course project (ECE2500Y) in the field of Communications-Integrated Security Technologies and Policies (subject to approval of supervisor) may be taken in lieu of three optional courses
